Hi, I’m Katy

Fine Art Portrait Photographer in Bloomington, Indiana

Born and raised on a farm in rural southern Indiana, I moved to Bloomington in 2006 and have enjoyed a beautiful 15 years here, getting my degree, raising my daughter, starting my business and meeting and marrying my husband.

I graduated from Indiana University in 2010 with a BA in Journalism, specializing in photojournalism, and with minors in Studio Art – specializing in fine art photography – and Art History. I completed a summer-abroad intensive photography program in Paris, France, as well as a photojournalism internship with the Bloomington Herald-Times during my time at IU.

I opened my first commercial studio space in downtown Bloomington in 2018, and have had the pleasure and honor of creating maternity, newborn, childhood, family, high school senior, college graduation and professional portraits for so many talented people here and all over central and southern Indiana. My heart bursts with the joy I’ve been so privileged to share in with my clients and friends.

Since going into business in 2011, my portraits have appeared in the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Bloom Magazine, Season Magazine, American Motorcyclist Magazine, Washington Times-Herald, and the Bloomington Herald-Times, to name a few. I’ve exhibited multiple galleries in Bloomington’s Gallery Walk, and was named the #1 Top Rated Local Photography Business in Indiana in 2020. I’ve earned my associate accreditation with The Portrait Masters, an international juried portrait photography awards and accreditation, from which I’ve also won bronze and silver awards over the years. I am a proud member of Professional Photographers of America and the National Association of Professional Child Photographers, from which I’ve earned Mastery Certificates in both newborn and child photography.

I’m the mother of a smart, kind and clever 13-year-old daughter named Sagan, and married to my husband David, a talented actor and director in the Bloomington theater community. Together, we have two super sweet dogs, the snuggliest calico cat, and two goofy tree frogs. They all inspire me to be creative in new ways every day. Art makes my heart happy, and photography is my creative outlet of choice. I truly love my job.

I was so proud to exhibit one of my favorite pieces at the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, Netherlands, in May 2023 as part of the My Girl With a Pearl exhibition in the Vermeer Room alongside Johannes Vermeer’s original painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring. My piece, inspired by the original painting and pictured at left, features my daughter at age 9.

Each year, I take on several volunteer projects that are close to my heart. Some of these include Project Middleway for Middleway House, Habitat for Humanity Women Build and the Monroe County National Organization for Women.
